  • My new perspective on lowrise jeans and 2000’s aesthetics

I’ve thought very deeply about what gives the 2000’s that “it” factor, that “juice” that felt so right at the time and feels so nostalgic looking back. I think I’ve finally articulated what that is.

For us living in the 2000’s, our experience was the 90’s and 80’s passing us by. Before we get into what that really means, did you know lowrise styles had existed before the 2000’s? Back in the 60’s and 70’s, a more free thinking movement, a younger, more optimistic, antiwar movement, actually donned lowrise styles. They did it in their own way. It was their way of saying “fuck you” to the concerns of the past, and “hello” to the ideas of the future. A 50’s or 40’s minded person could never.

Bikinis and lingerie from the 60’s and 70’s. Not what you expected, right?
  • Quick (And possibly final) Thoughts on AI

AI is a test of the human’s intelligence. Can they see past the really obvious pandering and reject something so stupid? I compare AI to a really “delicious” looking meal full of poison. The meal’s appearance panders to the most basic desirable traits: a wafting smell, a “shiny” look, a variety of colours, dramatic lighting.. hey that kind of reminds me of something. Cheap fast food ads. AI is a cheap fast food ad. It doesn’t look like the real thing. It’ll never be a real meal, a home cooked meal, or a professional meal. Its an image of something that’s barely food and in reality, its full of poison.

  • Who the hell said this was OK: High-waisted pants and now high-waist UNDERWEAR

Good Lord god help me what an eyesore!!

When I was a teen in the 2000’s, and lowrise trousers became the norm, it felt like a revolution- the next stage of fashion. It felt like the future. The old anxieties and conservatism of the 80’s and 90’s were replaced by a tech optimism, and a bold statement: A statement that we were no longer going to care about hangups of the past; it was time for us to embrace the future. Bodies were no longer taboo. We wanted to be cool. We wanted to be sexy. We wanted to be fearless. We wanted to innovate. And boy, did that reality come to pass..
